Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno Obareki, as the Acting First Lady, following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno. This decision comes shortly after the governor’s wife succumbed to an illness that ended her legacy of dedicated service in the state. Helen’s appointment has drawn significant attention, particularly as she steps into a role that comes with considerable responsibility, ensuring continuity in her late mother’s initiatives.

A Legacy of Service Continues

Pastor Patience Umo Eno deeply engaged in social welfare projects that uplifted women and families in Akwa Ibom. One of her major contributions was the "Golden Initiative For All (GIFA)," a project aimed at empowering women, promoting social development, and addressing pressing welfare needs across the state. With her passing, Akwa Ibom Governor Eno made it clear that the work his wife started should continue. By appointing Helen, the governor ensures the continuation of these projects, focusing strongly on women’s welfare and social impact programs.

In her new role as Acting First Lady, Helen will collaborate closely with key state officials, including the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare. Her leadership will be pivotal in driving the state’s existing welfare programs and taking them further to positively impact the people of Akwa Ibom.

Praise and Support from National Leaders

During a visit to the family, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, expressed her full support for Helen Eno Obareki. Senator Tinubu lauded Governor Eno's decision, praising the family for ensuring that the late First Lady’s legacy would live on through their daughter. She also assured Helen of her support and expressed confidence that she would succeed in her new role, carrying forward her mother’s vision and service to the people of Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno reflected on his deep bond with his late wife and acknowledged the lasting impact of her absence, while trusting his daughter to continue the work her mother started.
